Success!

With their own records on my side I apparently was able to do enough to get the site back online. That said, they now claim up to 24 hours for the domains to repropogate.

After the events of the past 12 hours Rachel has decided she can no longer trust our web host to conduct business fairly and honestly. This is likely to mean changes in the costs of keeping the Haven online as things change to a new host soon.

If you happen to have a web host you love, it wouldn't hurt to let Rachel know about them.

Site Down

Still working through this and have no idea when it may be resolved. The issue at hand is the host is claiming delinquency. Their invoices are indicating otherwise. I am doing what I can but not being home with Rachel in the hospital right now unless the host is willing to even discuss it there is a chance that nothing may happen until we can get home.

Fundraising Failure Leads to Site Downtime

UPDATE: The site is back online

UPDATE: Though things are still offline they should be coming up again within the next few hours. I have verified the data on the servers and thanks to an anonymous Haven heroine enough of the bill has been covered to reactivate hosting.

From what I have been able to gather fundraising issues have led to the hosting account being suspended for non-payment without warning. Based on what I can tell the account was behind in payment as of today.

Fact is the Haven is currently out of funds again. I have paid what Rach and I can afford to, but we're still short about $175. As what I paid already covered the 'delinquent' amount they listed I have asked for a reinstatement of the account based on the account history, but this is normally Rachel's purview and she's down from chemo at the moment, and also did not see this coming. Short of them reinstating the account I would say even with donation we are looking at 24-48 hours of downtime for funds to make their way through the system and be usable.

The fastest possible way to send funds to resolve this situation currently is on Google Wallet. Send funds to havenbookworks@gmail.com. If you don't already have a Google Wallet account setting one up is faster and easier than setting up a PayPal account, which we can no longer do for the Haven without the system automatically closing said account.

Another way to send funds is to use the card processing mobile app called Square. In order for you to use this method you first have to be given access from our end, but once setup you would be able to charge your own credit or debit card without ever creating an account yourself and whatever you charge would go to the Rachel's Haven account the next business day. To be setup on Square please contact rachels.admin@gmail.com

Also available though unlikely to be a speedy resolution in this current crisis is the tried and true postal box. Cash or money order can be sent to the PO Box. For the address please contact rachels.admin@gmail.com.

So, as basic as possible. To get the Haven account turned back on ASAP send funds via Google Wallet to havenbookworks@gmail.com. Through Google Wallet it may happen today.

Remember: This look is Temporary

When you have a forced deadline, no time for help, and barely enough time to do the necessary task you just have to take care of the basic needs.

While the appearance is definitely far from perfect it is at least functional for the time being.
In addition, though the Library is still currently offline when it does return to service it will not be connected to the member database. What does that mean? Well, you can try to log in all you like, but you will keep getting messages about how there is no such account. Unfortunately this is something we could no longer avoid due to the timeline given by our host to upgrade specific software or have the site disabled.

The good news is the software in question is now done for. The bad news is after 12 hours at the keyboard and 30 hours awake I am calling it a day. So have fun, enjoy poking around, just remember there's more to come in the next few months.

Haven will be Offline Tuesday, May 6 at 12:01 am PST

Due to unforeseeable and unrelated circumstances the planned maintainance will be pushed back 24 hours.

Monday will be just a minute old where the servers are located when the next round of upgrades begin. Due to the extensive amount of work planned during this round I can not predict when the site will be 100% online but don't expect it soon.

Updates will be posted to this blog as things become available to use again, and finally when upgrades have ceased.
